What an agent is
Which AI agents can work for your family, and what the different names mean.
Edge agent, external agent and remote agent all mean the same thing: an AI agent you already use, working for your family through Sprout.
These can work for your family:
- Sprout's own worker. It is always on and needs no setup.
- ChatGPT. It takes work when you open it, or when a scheduled task runs.
- Claude on claude.ai, in a chat. It takes work when you open it.
- Claude as a cloud routine. It checks once an hour on its own, with your computer off.
- Claude Code on your computer. It checks every 5 minutes, while the computer is on and awake.
- Codex on your computer. It checks every 5 minutes, while the computer is on and awake.
- Codex cloud tasks. They take work while a task you started is running.
- Gemini. It takes work when you open it.
- Grok Bot. It checks every 5 minutes on its own, with your computer off.
- Muse. It takes work when you open it.
You connect an agent from inside that agent. Sprout does not connect to it. Separately, Sprout Edge is Sprout's own app for a Mac. It is not an AI agent: it works from that Mac, while it is on and awake, and has its own page.
