Connect ChatGPT or another AI tool
Connect once with OAuth. Your AI tool can then use the Sprout family you authorize. Keep Sprout and your AI tool open in separate browser tabs while you set this up.
Before you start
- Your Sprout parent account must be verified.
- Add at least one child before testing the connection.
- The full Sprout flow requires ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, or Edu. ChatGPT Pro custom apps are limited to read and fetch actions.
- Use ChatGPT on the web. A computer is easiest for the two-tab setup.
Connect ChatGPT
1. Turn on Developer Mode
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings, then turn on Developer mode.
2. Create the Sprout app
Return to Settings → Apps, then choose Create. Enter Sprout as the name and use this server URL:
https://api.sproutgoodhabits.com/mcp3. Authorize Sprout
Complete the OAuth window with the same Sprout parent account that owns the family you want to use.
4. Verify before creating anything
Start a new ChatGPT conversation, select Sprout, and send this read-only check:
Read my Sprout family and tell me which child devices are paired. Do not create or change anything.Done when: the read-only check returns the correct family and tells you which child devices are paired.
Connect Claude Code, Codex, or another MCP tool
Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user sprout https://api.sproutgoodhabits.com/mcpRun /mcp, choose Sprout, then approve OAuth in your browser.
Codex
codex mcp add sprout --url https://api.sproutgoodhabits.com/mcp
codex mcp login sproutOther tools must support a remote Streamable HTTP MCP server and browser OAuth.
Connecting does not approve a family plan
OAuth lets the selected tool use the Sprout family you authorize. It does not grant parental consent, create a task, change Screen Time, approve a reward, or send the parent conversation to your child.
If the connection does not work
- If Developer mode is missing, confirm that you are on ChatGPT web in an eligible workspace and that your workspace admin has enabled custom MCP apps.
- If the wrong family appears, disconnect Sprout and authorize the correct parent account.
- If Sprout is not available in a chat, confirm that the app was created and enabled.
- If OAuth expired, reconnect Sprout and run the read-only check again.
