Connect Claude Code on your computer
Claude Code in a terminal or the Claude desktop app, checking for work on a schedule.
Claude Code on your computer can work for your family, from a terminal or from the Claude desktop app. It checks for work every 5 minutes, and only while the computer is on and awake.
Claude Code adds Sprout itself. Short address for this page: https://sprt.me/claude-code Paste this into Claude Code:
Please connect yourself to Sprout, our family app. Run this to add it as an MCP server: claude mcp add --transport http --scope user sprout https://api.sproutgoodhabits.com/mcp Then tell me to run /mcp and sign in to Sprout in my browser (it uses OAuth, no API key). If you can't see Sprout's tools until you restart, say so. Once Sprout is connected, work for my family on Sprout.- When it says so, type /mcp, pick sprout, and sign in to Sprout in your browser. Approve the permissions it shows. Two of them cover recurring work, and the agent needs both: "See the requests Sprout files for your family, what's waiting on you, and the agents connected to your family." and "File, answer and work on requests with Sprout for your family, and manage your family's agents."
- If it says it cannot see Sprout's tools yet, restart Claude Code and tell it: "Work for my family on Sprout."
If Claude Code is signed in with your claude.ai account, a Sprout you added on claude.ai is already there, and you can skip the paste.
The agent then registers itself and Sprout gives it a name. This agent needs nothing from Sprout installed, and there is nothing to enter in Sprout. Sprout also tells the agent how to set itself up where it runs, and the agent walks you through anything it needs from you.
Before it runs on its own:
- In the Claude desktop app: when you set up the routine, add Sprout, and each account it should read, in the connector list at the very bottom of the setup. A connector you do not add there is not available when the routine runs. Then click Run now once and choose Always allow each time it asks. A later run that has to ask stops and waits for you.
- In a terminal: allow the Sprout tools before you walk away. Claude Code tells you which ones. A question it asks while you are away waits until you answer.
- On a timer: each run starts with the Sprout tools already allowed. A tool that is not allowed is skipped, and the run carries on without it. Accounts connected on claude.ai (Gmail, Google Calendar) load only when Claude Code is signed in with your claude.ai account.
Good to know:
- It keeps checking either by staying open, or on a timer on your computer. Claude Code sets this up with you.
- Sprout cannot reach your computer, so work waits for the next check. It cannot be started right away.
- Turn its own notifications off: Sprout decides when to pull you in, and tells you in chat.
- Let it use only the Sprout tools, and read-only tools on your other accounts.
- On claude.ai, open Settings → Connectors → Gmail. This is on claude.ai, not in the Claude Code app.
- For checks while the computer is off, use a Claude cloud routine.
